Matou House is a reconstruction project for an existing semi-detached home in Singapore. Instead of demolishing the original structure, the design introduces a new architectural layer that wraps around the existing house. A lightweight steel pavilion traces the first storey, extending living spaces outward toward the garden while improving openness, light, and ventilation. At the centre of the house, a vertical stairwell void becomes the spatial anchor, heightened by terracotta red textured walls. Details throughout explore the idea of incompleteness through split forms and layered materials. Together, these strategies transform the existing house with a renewed identity.
