Ribbon Apartment

Ribbon Apartment transforms an excessively wide corridor into a curated architectural feature inspired by the client’s love for collecting Transformers figurines. A continuous bespoke joinery wall — the “Ribbon” — lines the dining and circulation spaces, forming a dynamic elevational composition that integrates display, storage, and lighting. Layered plywood edges, recessed linear lighting, and pastel green accents spotlight prized collectibles against a neutral timber backdrop.

The design strategy began with reinterpreting the apartment’s disproportionately wide corridor as an opportunity rather than a constraint. Instead of treating it as residual space, we introduced a bespoke joinery intervention — the “Ribbon” — that becomes both spatial organiser and display infrastructure.
Lining the dining walls and extending from the entrance, the Ribbon establishes a continuous architectural datum that reinforces key axis lines within the home. A timber portal aligns the bedroom corridor to a newly created opening in the kitchen wall, strengthening visual connectivity across spaces. Compartments of varying scales accommodate the homeowner’s belongings, while curated pastel green laminates punctuate the neutral timber palette to highlight special collector pieces.
Curved corners maximise usable display surfaces and reinforce the fluidity of the Ribbon form. Integrated recessed uplighting and linear illumination soften ambient lighting while tracing the path of the joinery, consolidating ceiling fixtures into a single refined element.
Through material restraint, crafted detailing, and integrated lighting, the Ribbon transforms storage into a spatial narrative — turning circulation into a gallery and elevating everyday domestic life into an immersive experience.
